Preservation of Indigenous Agricultural Knowledge of the Kukis of Senapati District of Manipur: A Study

Abstract:
The Kuki tribes in Manipur have their heavy concentration in Churachandpur district, Chandel district and Senapati district. Kuki inhabited sub-divisions of Senapati district are known as Sadar-Hills sub-division which is divided into three sub-divisions; Kangpokpi-Sadar Hills West, Saitu-Gamphazol and Saikul-Sadar Hills East subdivisions.Most of its inhabited villages are located in remotest corner of Senapati district in Manipur. These district sub-divisions were selected as sample for the study. Three Kuki villages located in remote corner of Sadar-hills sub-division of Senapati district were selected as an area for conducting the present study. Research was conducted in Gelnel village of Sadar-hills sub-division under Kangpokpi constituency, Khunkho village of Sadar-hills sub-division under Saitu constituency and Saijang village of Sadar-hills sub-division under Saikul constituency.
